How to Compare Collagen Capsule Strengths Without Getting Misled
By Glow Nutrition1 min read
Who this is for: UK buyers comparing several collagen capsule products by strength and serving size
The biggest number is not always the collagen dose
Capsule labels often compete with big numbers. The problem is that the number can mean different things: per capsule, per serving, per day, per bottle or per blend.
Do not compare until you know what the number refers to.
Use the daily serving
The clean comparison is collagen milligrams per recommended daily serving. If one product gives 600mg per capsule and asks for two capsules, the daily collagen amount is 1,200mg. If another gives 2,400mg per three-capsule serving, that is the figure to compare.
Then check how many days the bottle lasts.
Separate collagen from the complex
A capsule can contain collagen plus vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, zinc, copper, biotin or other ingredients. That is fine if the label is clear.
It becomes confusing when the largest number refers to a "beauty complex" rather than collagen alone. A 2,000mg complex is not necessarily 2,000mg collagen.
Price per bottle can mislead
A cheaper bottle may contain fewer days, a lower dose or more capsules per serving. Calculate:
- price per day
- collagen grams per day
- price per gram of collagen
- capsule count per day
That last point matters because a cheap product requiring four capsules a day may not feel cheap in use.
Claims and safety note
Capsule strength is a label and value issue, not proof of results. Collagen has no authorised GB health claim for skin, hair, nails, joints, wrinkles, hydration or ageing.
If a capsule includes vitamins or minerals, check the amounts against other supplements you take. Do not exceed directions to chase a higher collagen dose. If you need medical advice, ask a pharmacist or clinician.

Frequently asked questions
- What does high strength mean on collagen capsules?
- It is marketing language unless the label clearly states the collagen amount. Compare milligrams per daily serving rather than relying on the phrase.
- Is mg per capsule the same as mg per serving?
- No. A serving may be two or more capsules. Always read the directions alongside the supplement facts.
- What if the label says collagen complex?
- Check whether the label separates collagen from other ingredients. A complex weight may include vitamins, minerals, hyaluronic acid or other actives.
